Soups – the Solution to Perfect Health?
Tell us – what do you hate about winter the most? It probably isn’t the snow – we bet it’s the colds. Everyone hates colds, as even the healthiest people can catch them. Viruses are inevitable in the cold weather when our immune system is usually down. However, instead of sneezing and coughing all day long in the winter, there’s a way to avoid all of that without spending thousands on antibiotics.
The garlic-ginger soup we have for you below is an excellent source of all the nutrients your immune system needs. The virus-buster works thanks to the allicin in the garlic and the amazing amount of nutrients in ginger.
According to a recent Washington University study, garlic is the most effective natural (and otherwise) antibiotic against any kind of viral or bacterial infection. Allicin is a compound found in garlic which is released when the veggie is crushed.
Once active and consumed, allicin has a number of amazing health benefits. First and foremost, it will clean your arteries of blockages while also lowering your blood pressure and the risk of heart disease. That goes in addition to its powerful antibiotic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.
And, although there’s still a lot more research to be done on allicin, it has shown a lot of promise in many studies.
Allicin vs. Big Pharma
If you’re wondering why allicin hasn’t been extensively studied at the moment, it’s because Big Pharma doesn’t have interest in it. Would pharmaceutical companies allow something natural to destroy their profits? No, they wouldn’t. Science is still divided on garlic’s ability to fight colds and the flu, but that could all change soon.
Garlic-Ginger Soup Recipe
- 26 garlic cloves
- ½ a cup ginger (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 2 ¼ cups onions (sliced)
- 1 ½ teaspoons chopped thyme
- ½ tablespoon cayenne pepper powder
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 3 ½ cups vegetable broth
- 4 lemon wedges
First, preheat the oven at 350F. Put the 26 peeled garlic cloves on a baking dish, sprinkling some olive oil and salt over them. Bake the garlic until it’s soft and tender – it should take about 45 minutes. Transfer the cloves to a small glass bowl and leave it to cool down.
In the meantime, melt some butter over low heat in a saucepan, then add the ginger, onions, thyme and cayenne pepper. Cook until the onions are translucent before adding the garlic in. Cook for about 3 minutes more, then add the vegetable broth, cover the saucepan, and cook on low heat. Puree the soup in a blender in the end, then return the mixture to the saucepan and pour the coconut milk in. Add some salt and pepper, squeeze one lemon wedge in and serve hot. You can prepare a bigger amount of this soup and keep it in the fridge – in this way, you can eat it for days.
